Can you prevent your boss on Facebook from viewing your entire friends list?
DVS asked:
Is there any way to prevent certain Facebook friends from seeing certain people listed on your friend's list? For example, is there an application that I could use to prevent my family & boss from seeing that I am friends with Jane Doe? Jane is a great person, but my family/coworkers would not approve. This is the main reason why I am not on FB. Phlebob: I am not concerned about my boss creating "another identity," or a second account. I just want to block a few users from being able to see that I'm friends with a few people.

I’m not familiar with Facebook, but I can’t see how any program could protect you against a real person. Against specific Facebook users, maybe, but if they create another identity, how would it know it was them?
Sorry, but I doubt it.

Sorry, but no.
You can put your boss on a limited profile list and block your entire friends list from being seen, or not block it at all. There is no in between with this one. There aren’t any applications on Facebook that allow you to do this either.

Yes you can! Ok… go to facebook and log on…. on the top right there is a privacy link, so click on that. Scroll down and on the bottom right you will see a “limited profile area”. Click on “Edit Settings” and uncheck the boxes that you want hidden! Friends are listed there! Then save the settings and type whoevers name you want to block from seeing certain things in the Limited Profile List section at the bottom right and add them. Very easy. You can do this with any or all of your FB information.

To answer your question, there is no application that can do that. The list of friends is an integral part of the Facebook infrastructure since day one of operations in 2004.
I do have a question for you: Why do you worry about what your family thinks of who you associate with? If you enjoy company with “Jane Doe”, then it is YOUR right to think this way. Never ever let others (including your family) tell you who you can be friends with.
My advice for your situation: Get a Facebook account, add your friends/co-workers/family/bosses and “Jane Doe” as your friends. If anyone has a complaint about Jane, tell them to “take my decisions as they are or tough it out, either way I don’t give a damn about who you think my friends should be”.
Bottom line: be an assertive person. There is nothing wrong about standing your ground. You are an adult and are entitled to decide what is best and right for yourself!
